Sustainability

As with any project, it’s important to consider sustainability when carrying out a demolition.

It is important to consider the demolition stage of a building’s lifecycle - and therefore to consider the future reusability of any materials - prior to construction of the building, during the planning stage.

Some sustainability considerations around demolition might include:

  • Careful deconstruction methods – this allows for materials to be salvaged and reused. Recoverable materials might include timber, bricks or metal. Fixtures, fittings and equipment may also be salvaged prior to demolition.
  • Recycling demolition waste - materials such as concrete, asphalt, and metals, may be able to be processed and recycled into new construction materials. Recycling reduces the demand for new materials, conserves resources, and minimizes landfill waste.

Remember to keep longevity, durability, and sustainability considerations at the forefront of your discussions with tradespeople. Use our online tool to find a qualified professional for your project.1
